Shortland Has Reservations About Hone Harawira's Bravado

Candidate for Te Tai Tokerau, Waihoroi Shortland has some reservations about the bravado of Hone Harawira’s statement on Marae Investigates that he had voted against GST.

“A search of parliamentary records on the votes taken on the Taxation (Budget Measures) Bill, the legislation that introduced the 2.5% rise in GST in 2010” shows clearly how concerned Mr. Harawira was about the change to GST” said Mr. Shortland.

“He didn’t speak in the debate, apparently he wasn’t even at parliament and he most certainly didn’t vote against GST, despite what he says”

“In fact during the debate of 20-21 May 2010, the only reference to Mr. Harawira was other politicians asking where he was” said Mr. Shortland.

But then again this is the same man who forgot to vote against the Takutai Moana bill, despite saying he felt so strongly about it he left the Maori Party”.

“This election, Te Tai Tokerau has a choice – vote for a party that does the hard yards, walk the talk, represents them in Parliament and tells the truth – or for the man from Mana who talks then walks, and doesn’t represent his electorate”.
