Cut in welfare = Cut in crime = less victims

The Sensible Sentencing Trust is applauding Nationals proposed welfare reforms saying the existing welfare system has become a launching pad for criminals.

Trust Spokesman Garth McVicar said the current welfare system has encouraged and funded failure. “It has destroyed hope and created criminals and many thousands of victims.”

“No one can argue the welfare system has achieved any of its goals. Poverty, domestic violence, child abuse and crime have flourished under the modern day welfare system.”

“Allowing beneficiaries to stay home and simply wait for their next ‘pay-day’ has created an environment that has compounded the massive problems facing New Zealand today.”

“Rampant crime is just one of the outcomes of this failed social experiment.”

“While we totally understand and support helping people in need we are vehemently opposed to the current system which has evolved to a hand-out mentality and been used by some as a spring-board for criminal activity.”

“It is time we acknowledged that welfare has played a significant role in creating many of the social and economic problems facing New Zealand today.”
