New Zealand First Law & Order policy has won support
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Winston congratulated
for call to end ‘bulk-discount’
sentencing
New Zealand First Law & Order policy has won support from a leading Victims’ advocate.
New Zealand First leader Winston Peters is promising a regime of hard labour for hardened criminals and an end to concurrent sentences for repeat violent offenders. The announcement has been welcomed by the Sensible Sentencing Trust.
Trust Spokesman, Garth McVicar said the current ‘bulk-discount’ system made a mockery of the term ‘justice’.
“The law in this area is a complete ass, even the criminals know the more crimes they commit the bigger discount they will get.”
“Many of these career criminals get bail and they know they may as well go hard-out while on bail as all the crimes committed and sentences given will be lumped together and served as one.”
“How dumb is that! Not only is it dumb but it is very stressful and traumatic for victims’ to know that many of the crimes against them are total freebies – there is no penalty.”
“We also congratulate New Zealand First for announcing that ‘White Collar’ criminals will be treated as criminals. Many of our [SST] supporters have lost their homes and life savings through the actions of unscrupulous financial dealings. I am sure they will certainly welcome this move.”
Mr. McVicar said while Sensible Sentencing Trust will never align with any political party the organisation would continue to lobby hard for a more robust and victim centred justice system.
