Upper Hutt’s Draft Long Term Plan out for consultation

Upper Hutt’s Draft Long Term Plan Summary will be delivered to homes today via the Upper Hutt Leader.

28 March 2012— Upper Hutt City Council’s Draft Long Term Plan Summary and submission form will be delivered to Upper Hutt residents today. Local community newspaper, the Upper Hutt Leader has included the items as an insert for today’s delivery. The delivery of these items will be to Upper Hutt homes only and excludes Stokes Valley and local businesses.

Upper Hutt Mayor, Wayne Guppy is proud to present the proposed plan, and hopes it will entice citizens to review the documents during the consultation period. “This summary document outlines where we have got to in our Long Term Plan process. It is made available to residents to give them a taste of what could be achieved in Upper Hutt over the next ten years,” said Mr Guppy. “Ideally we want people to engage in this process with us, to build a great city that we and our children can enjoy for years to come.”

The document summarises the larger Draft Long Term Plan, which Council has made available at various locations and on their website for download. Food for thought for residents will be the inclusion of projects in response to last year’s ‘pre-consultation’ in October along with proposed rates rises over the ten year period. “Not all of this is set in stone yet,” said Mr Guppy. “There are some statutory obligations that we have to meet, such as several earthquake strengthening and road safety projects. But ultimately we want to continue to be guided by residents as to how we are to move forward.”

Sustainability Advisor Roderick Boys is pleased to have the two out together as, ultimately responses to one will affect the other. Copies of the Draft Long Term Plan and Summary document, the Draft Sustainability Strategy, and their respective submission forms will be available at Council Reception, the Central Library, Pinehaven Library, and the i-SITE Visitor Centre. These documents are also available online at www.upperhuttcity.com/consultation along with more information about the submission process.

Submissions can be posted, faxed, emailed or dropped in at the Central Library or Council Reception.
