Howick Councillor Welcomes East West Link Announcement
Howick Ward Councillor, Dick Quax has described the government’s pronouncement that it wants to speed up the combined Auckland Manukau Eastern Transport Initiative and East-West Link project as a great boost for Auckland’s south eastern region.
The East Tamaki and Highbrook area is growing rapidly and unless there more transport links opened growth may be stifled. The area has grown by 61 per cent between 2000 and 2010 and employs 28,000 people in manufacturing, wholesale, administration and support services as well as professional scientific and technical services.
Mr Quax said this will be welcome news to the many businesses located there who have been asking for better connections to the airport and the inland ports.
“It will also mean that there will be more employment opportunities within easy reach of the eastern suburbs such as Pakuranga, Howick, Botany, Bucklands Beach, Flat Bush and the new town centre at Ormiston.”
