Theme announced for National Volunteer Week 2014

Volunteering New Zealand (VNZ) is pleased to announce that National Volunteer Week (NVW) will be held this year on 15 – 21 June 2014. This year’s campaign is inspired by the following whakataukī: “Naku te rourou nau te rourou ka ora ait e tangata” translated as, “With your contribution and my contribution the people will live.”

VNZ’s Chief Executive Vanisa Dhiru says, “National Volunteer Week is a great way to attract new volunteers and celebrate those who already give their time to help. This year, we want the week to focus on people understanding how they can give skills, gain experiences, and strive to be good citizens and build stronger communities for future generations”.

Vanisa encourages volunteer-involving organisations to start planning now for what they will do to celebrate the week and how they can incorporate the whakataukī in their communications. VNZ have prepared a wider briefing on theme which can be downloaded at: www.volunteeringnz.org.nz/2014/nvw2014theme

“VNZ is creating some online branded material - logos, posters and key messages – for organisations and groups to use on the lead up to and during the week.” The online ‘kete’ of branded materialwill be available on VNZ’s website in the next few weeks.

National Volunteer Week is New Zealand’s largest celebration of volunteering and civic participation, with celebration and events held across the country to recognise the invaluable contribution made by volunteers in Aotearoa.

VNZ is an association of New Zealand organisations that have a commitment to volunteering, such as volunteer centres, national and other organisations. Their mission is to promote, support and advocate for volunteering. www.volunteeringnz.org.nz
