Generation Zero Campaign for Cycle Lanes on K Rd ends today

Generation Zero Campaign for Cycle Lanes on K Road ends today

Support for youth organization Generation Zero’s petition to get cycle lanes on K Road has broken through to 100 businesses and 2000 signatures in a short space of 2 weeks.

Niko Elsen, Generation Zero spokesperson says that help is still needed to get this through. He warns that feedback to the Waitemata Local Board on K Rd cycling lanes closes by the end of the day today. However, it is never too late to sign Generaton Zero’s petition on this issue online. The group is planning to take the petition directly to the Waitemata Local Board.

Generation Zero has been overwhelmed by the support for this campaign so far. ‘You can see very easily that there is a huge need for cycle lanes on K Road from the public and the small businesses’.

K Road is one of the busiest and most unsafe roads for cycling in the Auckland, so building cycle lanes seem to be a natural move. Lots of people want to cycle on K Road, but without separated cycle lanes, it just seems too dangerous at the moment.

‘There are lots of other benefits for building cycle lanes on K Road’, says Niko ‘It will complete a connected network of cycling lanes in Auckland CBD. People can easily get around CBD on a 10min bike ride. Moreover, K Road is flat and wide. Building a cycle lane is relatively cheap compared to creating other transport infrastructures. There is really no reason not to.’

Local shop owner [insert name and shop name] says ‘We very much support cycle lanes on K Road. It will help to take more customers through the doors of our businesses. Cycle lanes really suit the friendly and progressive culture on K Road’.
