Help Us Turn Up The Youth Vote - #RockEnrol is Crowd Funding

Help Us Turn Up The Youth Vote #RockEnrol

Crowdfunding Announcement
#RockEnrol Pledgeme Crowdfunding Page

#RockEnrol is a non-partisan campaign that uses popular culture, technology, music & events to build & activate political power for young people in Aotearoa NZ.

The goals of #RockEnrol are simple:

1. Get people enrolled (hype)
2. Get people informed (content)
3. Get people out to vote (action)

Building a movement
We are running a 60-day series of events & parties all around the country where the only way to get a ticket is you have to enrol & pledge to vote (for any political party) in the 2014 General Election. Inspired by Rock The Vote, NZ Music Month & Oxfam’s Fairtrade Fortnight – people can organise their own #RockEnrol Party at home or in their community, or they can attend a party that we organise at a club or a venue. Hosts will be able to download or get sent out a Host Pack and the best hosts go in the draw to win cool prizes (like festival tickets, music vouchers & gym memberships).

What do we need money for?
Parties & events need money to run. You can help us keep these events free by pledging today. Our goal is to raise $10k in 3 weeks (but we set the target at $5k, so we can at least get that). The money will be used to help pay the creative people behind the #RockEnrol parties all around the country (because too many artists & creative people work for free & they shouldn't have to).

Gordon Campbell: On Dune 2, And Images Of Islam

Depictions of Islam in Western popular culture have rarely been positive, even before 9/11. Five years on from the mosque shootings, this is one of the cultural headwinds that the Muslim community has to battle against. Whatever messages of tolerance and inclusion are offered in daylight, much of our culture tends to be hostile to Islam when we’re sitting in the dark, with popcorn.
Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik...
