Feeling good about giving on #GivingTuesday

Giving feels good. And 1 December is #GivingTuesday, a day to say thank you for giving.

On the first Tuesday in December every year, businesses, charities, community groups, families, and individuals are encouraged to celebrate a day of giving to kick off the giving season of Christmas.

The YWCA is one organisation embracing #GivingTuesday. With fashion designer Annah Stretton, YWCA is hosting a night of inspiration in Auckland called Live Life in Colour. The evening will provide women real strategies and techniques to “colour their world” and reach their full potential.

“Today, because we consistently hear women are under pressure — financially, socially, economically and culturally — our focus is to support and advocate for women in these critical areas to help create stronger, more resilient communities,” says Moncia Briggs, YWCA CEO.

#GivingTuesday is not only uniting New Zealanders; it’s bringing together people from around the world. It was started in 2012 by New York's 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation. Together, they rallied different sectors together to give back and support local causes and communities.

And as New Zealand will be the first in the world to welcome Tuesday 1 December, we look forward to leading the way.
