Libertarianz Deputy Leader Richard McGrath says his stomach churned as he read the speech given by John Delamare in China last night. "I am disgusted to find a representative of our semi-free country offering moral support to the bloodthirsty tyrants of Tiananmen Square".

Dr McGrath rejects Delamere's claim that there is only one China, and that New Zealand is proud to be her friend. "I speak for all my party, in saying we do not want any part of the torture, show trials and inhumane punishment dealt out to political dissenters in communist China."

"Unlike the amoral Mr Delamere, most New Zealanders are appalled by the reports of repression and brutality that emerge from China," says McGrath. "I am outraged," added McGrath, "that a politician from here is sucking up to the same people who sent in army tanks to crush students. Ask yourself what sort of person would want to suck up to these murderers?"

Given the layers of meta-irony involved, the saga of the Sony cyber attack seemed at the outset more like a snarky European art film than a popcorn entry at the multiplex.

Yet now with (a) President Barack Obama weighing in on the side of artistic freedom and calling for the US to make a ‘proportionate response’quickly followed by (b) North Korea’s entire Internet service going down, and with both these events being followed by (c) Sony deciding to backtrack and release The Interview film that had made it a target for the dastardly North Koreans in the first place, then ay caramba…the whole world will now be watching how this affair pans out.
