Where Will You Put The Murderers Jim?
Monday, 11 October 1999, 4:05 pm
Press Release: New Zealand National Party
|
The Alliance has promised to get rid of prisons if they
become part of the next Government.
Matthew Parkinson,
National’s East Coast candidate says Jim Anderton’s
ramblings defy belief.
“The Gisborne Herald reports that
in Gisborne on Saturday Jim Anderton said if the Alliance’s
$200 million economic development bureaucracy was set up New
Zealand wouldn’t need prisons. Anyone who comes up with a
statement as stupid as that doesn’t deserve serious
consideration as Deputy Prime Minister”.
Mr Parkinson said
“Murderers should be locked up for the rest of their natural
life, not left to roam around on a Government work
scheme.”

Gordon Campbell: On the Sony cyber attack
Given the layers of meta-irony involved, the saga of the Sony cyber attack seemed at the outset more like a snarky European art film than a popcorn entry at the multiplex.
Yet now with (a) President Barack Obama weighing in on the side of artistic freedom and calling for the US to make a ‘proportionate response’quickly followed by (b) North Korea’s entire Internet service going down, and with both these events being followed by (c) Sony deciding to backtrack and release The Interview film that had made it a target for the dastardly North Koreans in the first place, then ay caramba…the whole world will now be watching how this affair pans out.
