Labour Inspectorate To Investigate Alleged Exploitation Of Thai Women Workers
Media coverage of allegations that
a number of Thai women have been employed under “slave
labour conditions” in a West Auckland factory have noted
that the Department of Labour’s Labour Inspectorate intends
to investigate these allegations.
“I can confirm that a number of complaints have been received by the Labour Inspectorate concerning this situation, and that an investigation into them is presently underway” said Acting Labour Inspectorate Manager, Joanne Silberstein.
“This investigation is being given a high priority, so that all relevant facts can be rapidly uncovered. However, until this process is complete, and the investigation concluded, it would be inappropriate to make any further comment on the matter” she said
