FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Cadmus hails over 15% of Taxis with its SmartTaxi terminal

Auckland - August 24, 2001 – Leading payment technology specialist, Cadmus Technology Limited (NZSE: CTL), announced today it has sold over 650 SmartTaxi terminals.

With over 15% of the total taxi industry and several leading New Zealand taxi companies using the system daily, the Cadmus SmartTaxi terminal has gained a strong presence in the market.

Cadmus’ SmartTaxi customers consist some of the largest taxi companies in New Zealand for their region, including Wellington Combined Taxis, Gold Band Taxis (Christchurch), Queenstown Taxis and City Cabs (Dunedin).

The smartcard based system is a cost effective method to manage credit card and corporate voucher taxi payments. It also improves service to corporate customers by ensuring that management reports are more accurate and comprehensive.

Cadmus Technology Limited, Managing Director Ian Bailey, says the SmartTaxi terminal demonstrates how a product can deliver real benefits for taxi businesses in the growing debit/credit payment market.

“We are committed to making transactions as quick, easy and consumer friendly as possible and SmartTaxi is all about convenience for both the business and the consumer.

For instance, the facility meets consumers' growing demands for access to financial transactions outside traditional banking facilities and normal hours of service, while
it provides an added value service and is extremely simple to install.”

Richard Wright, Acting Manager of Wellington Combined Taxis states that, “the advanced intelligence provided by the SmartTaxi system, allows our company to obtain a wide range of summary reports including the total daily fares, methods of payment and the total number of fares. It also reduces the time drivers spend reconciling and settling payment for non-cash fares.”

The SmartTaxi terminal allows taxi companies to gain consumer information, process it in their taxis and automatically upload it to a central host system. The company can then download a summarised report of all credit card and corporate voucher taxi payments for any defined period.

“Organisations using this service will be able to more effectively track who, when and where taxi vouchers are used over a specific period. In addition credit cards can be processed by the same system enabling faster approvals and more comprehensive receipts for the customers,” adds Mr Bailey.
