NZ’s Top Internet Sites Named In Annual Awards

On the eve of the crucial All Blacks- Wallabies world cup rugby semi-final clash, the official All Blacks web site ( http://www.allblacks.com) has been named as New Zealand’s best website of the year in the annual NetGuide Web Awards.

It’s the seventh year for the prestigious event in which the best Kiwi web sites in 16 categories are named along with an overall winner of New Zealand site of the year.

The awards are largely judged by public online voting and thousands of votes were recorded on NetGuide magazine’s web site over a three-month period. Independent overseas judges were used for the final decision for a small number of specialist categories such as best web designer.

The revamped All Black site was considered to be a “well laid out with the best ingredients of today’s sites – including regularly updated news, audio interviews and videos as well as material fans can download.”

Among the individual category winners, Auckland music retailer Real Groovy ( http://www.realgroovy.co.nz) was named best e-tail site, ASB Bank ( http://www.asbbank.co.nz) best finance site, Stuff ( http://www.stuff.co.nz) best news service, Seek ( http://www.seek.co.nz) best employment site, SPCA best community site ( http://www.spca.org.nz) and the official New Zealand tourism site ( http://www.newzealand.com) best travel site.

The Government’s main web site ( http://www.govt.nz) won best government and local body site and the new official Governor-General site ( http://www.gg.govt.nz) best new web site.

Telecom’s Xtra was named by the public as best ISP and Auckland-based Interaction was named best web designers.

Other category winners: Best small business web site Price Spy ( http://www.pricespy.co.nz), best entertainment site Biggie ( http://www.biggie.co.nz), best youth site (http://www.gameplanet.co.nz), best sports site ( http://www.nzxsports.com) and best personal blog (http://www.publicaddress.net).

The awards are held annually by New Zealand’s leading technology magazine NetGuide to encourage and recognize the best web sites in New Zealand.
