Significant move forward for New Zealand’s NGI network
The NGI-NZ Society said it was pleasing to note the strong Government commitment for the establishment of an advanced network for New Zealand, announced by the Minister for Research, Science and Technology, Pete Hodgson, yesterday.
“The announcement is a significant move that will bring New Zealand into the world-wide advanced network community. It will provide a vital set of resources to support research and education, and to facilitate collaboration with the innovation sector of New Zealand industry,” said NGI-NZ Society Chair, Neil James.
NGI-NZ has been working to strengthen New Zealand's linkages on the international advanced network scene, including the signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Internet2 in the United States, becoming a member of the Asia Pacific Advanced Network organisation, and joining the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre. NGI-NZ representatives have already attended international meetings to strengthen ties with the international advanced network community.
“NGI-NZ will
work closely with the Government Advanced Network Steering
Committee and the network Implementation Manager, providing
advice and direction for the establishment of the network,
and supporting vital capability development within New
Zealand's research community,” said Neil
James.
