Heavy Rain In The North
MetService meteorologists have issued a heavy rain warning for Northland and northern Auckland given that an incoming frontal zone could possibly stall over the area on Thursday.
"This front contains some intense rain", said MetService Weather Ambassador, Bob McDavitt, "and is likely to make slow progress as it comes up against an intense high-pressure system east of the country. Due to this slow movement and associated strong northeast winds, rainfall amounts of around 70mm in six to nine hours are likely. If the front stalls completely then some places may receive a total of 150mm in 24 hours."
Mr. McDavitt added that the central hills and eastern parts of Northland were the most likely to receive the heaviest rainfall from this front.
"This rain is not expected to last as long as the heavy rain that brought floods on 10th July, however since the soil is already soggy there is likely to be some surface flooding and some rapidly rising streams and rivers. People in the area should stay up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings."
