EECA supports electric car drive
The future is coming
to New Zealand as a result of Meridian energy's announcement
of a trial of electric vehicles says Mike Underhill, Chief
Executive of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation
Authority (EECA).
'Meridian's announcement of a trial of electric vehicles from early next year is very significant. It has the potential to put New Zealand in pole position to adopt such vehicles as they hit the mass market, said Mike Underhill.
"Electric vehicles could make a significant contribution to two major issues facing New Zealand, the challenge of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from transport, and to reduce the risk to the economy posed by rising oil prices.
"Add to this that New Zealand's electricity system is among the most renewable in the world, and they really do offer a clean, green and sustainable solution.
"All of New Zealand should watch this trial with great interest ", said Mike Underhill.
