NZBIO congratulates Food Innovation NZ

NZBIO congratulates Food Innovation New Zealand on their official launch at Massey University’s Palmerston North campus.

“This bringing together of industry and research heavyweights in one significant international brand demonstrates the potential for New Zealand science to transform traditional commodities into high value goods that will command a premium on the world’s food markets,” NZBIO Chief Executive Bronwyn Dilley says.

“New Zealand has a long history of excellent research in food related science and a strong agricultural base. Bringing these two fundamental parts of our economy together in Food Innovation New Zealand creates a powerful platform to deliver long term economic benefits to the rest of the country.

“As the largest collaboration of food research experts in the Southern Hemisphere FINZ represents an ideal opportunity to enhance New Zealand’s global reputation for innovation. Through adding value to traditional primary produce FINZ could potential increase New Zealand’s food related exports by billions of dollars.

“The announcement of the Government’s science priorities this week also demonstrates high level recognition that research, science and technology will underpin the goal of growing the New Zealand economy.

“A key part of this will be enabling the already excellent science taking place in New Zealand to connect with business and generate commercial outcomes. Food Innovation New Zealand is an excellent example of how combining our strengths can create a centre of globally significant capability.”
