Canon unveils new digital camera range featuring enhanced TruCapture technology

New High Sensitivity Sensor makes it even easier to capture life’s precious moments ‘true-to-life’ – even in low light

Canon today unveiled its new Canon Digital Camera range featuring an impressive High Sensitivity (HS) sensor to enhance Canon’s signature TruCapture technology: the Canon Powershot SX230 HS, and IXUS 310 HS, 220 HS and 115 HS. In addition to enhanced TruCapture technology, the new range includes the world’s thinnest 24mm wide angle, 5x Optical Zoom model1 – the IXUS 220 HS, and Canon’s first GPS-equipped camera – the PowerShot SX230 HS.

“The latest PowerShot SX series and IXUS series in the Canon Digital Camera range allows users to capture life’s precious moments in the highest quality possible using a compact camera thanks to Canon’s TruCapture technology,” says Rochelle Mora, Brand Manager – Imaging, Canon New Zealand. “TruCapture makes it easy to shoot beautiful images exactly as they appear to the eye and, now featuring Canon’s HS sensor, this performance extends to low-light conditions.”

Canon’s new digital camera line-up also delivers lots of novel features, which when combined with Canon’s signature image-quality technology, make taking pictures and shooting movies fun and more creative.
These include Intelligent Auto with advanced subject detection (32 scenes upgraded from 28) and stunning Full High Definition (HD) movie recording (approximately 2.3 times the resolution of HD) with a new Movie Digest feature.

Additionally, the PowerShot SX230 HS is equipped with a new stand-out feature – a built-in GPS tagging system – which identifies and records location information in the image data. This lets users recall and retrace their travel journeys easily, search for photos by location and create original maps to share their travel adventures with friends and family.

True-to-life photos – even in low light

Improved image quality is enabled with Canon’s proprietary TruCapture technology, which captures life’s memories in true colour and true clarity, at the press of a button. TruCapture comprises three key technologies – lens-based Optical Image Stabiliser (OIS), which cuts hand-held shake for blur-free photos; DIG!C Processor for true–to-life colours; and Intelligent Auto to ensure the perfect shot.

Combining a 12.1 Megapixel High Sensitivity sensor with Canon’s DIG!C imaging processor, TruCapture achieves great handheld shots even in dark scenes – suppressing blurring, reducing highlight blowout and loss of detail in shadows, and capturing colours accurately.

Easy usability and reliability

Canon’s Intelligent Auto technology recognises up to 32 scenes to easily capture the best shot anytime, anywhere, no matter the lighting or setting –– perfect for those who want to let the camera do the work. Intelligent Auto analyses the scene, detecting faces and movement including ‘non-human’ moving objects, lighting conditions, as well as the distance to the main subject, making it possible to capture a wider range of shots easily.

“Intelligent Auto with advanced subject detection means you don’t have to waste time trying to adjust your camera to the right setting, so you can capture moving people, objects, night scenes and close-ups with confidence,” says Mora.

Full HD movie recording and Movie Digest

The very latest PowerShot SX series and IXUS series cameras (even the world’s-slimmest*1 IXUS 220 HS) record stunning Full HD movies at a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, making it possible to enjoy high-image-quality movies on a big screen TV.

A ‘Movie Button’ makes switching between photo and video recording quick and easy. And with Intelligent Auto in ‘Movie’ mode outstanding home videos can be captured effortlessly.
What’s more, Movie Digest – a unique feature which records four seconds of video prior to a photo being taken – automatically edits the day’s unexpected events into one short Full HD movie. And when shooting a scene using zoom, Movie Digest captures the zoom movement in the movie.

“Now it's easier than ever to capture your precious memories in sharp, vivid colour or high-quality Full HD movies on a slim, compact camera,” says Mora.

Key features – PowerShot SX series

As well as offering enhancements to Canon’s core digital imaging technologies, the new PowerShot SX series features additional functions for ease of use and higher-quality image capture.

The PowerShot SX230 HS model house a powerful 14x Optical Zoom, bringing the power of Canon’s amazing ‘Super Zoom’ to a compact camera body, allowing users to get even closer to the action. The SX230HS also feature a 28mm wide angle lens, which is perfect for capturing panoramic landscapes such as mountain ranges or sunsets.

“The new PowerShot SX230 HS is the ideal companion for the keen traveller because it packs a wide angle, 14x Optical Zoom range with advanced Full HD movie shooting capability and the new Movie Digest feature. For GPS functionality, simply opt for the PowerShot SX230 HS to track and display your photography route on Google Maps – making it fun to track, collect and share your photos,” says Mora.

The PowerShot SX230 HS is available in black through Authorised Canon New Zealand Resellers.

Key features – IXUS Series

The new stylish and ultra-compact IXUS series incorporates even more features to capture spontaneous moments as they happen, without the hassle of adjusting settings.

The standout feature of the new IXUS 310 HS is its large 3.2-inch LCD touch screen, providing enhanced usability with easy-to-navigate touch operations. It also enables better quality image capture through the ability to increase depth of field, allowing for a wider range of shots with the 24mm wide f/2.0 lens.

At a lean 19.5mm, the IXUS 220 HS is the world’s slimmest compact digital camera*, with a powerful 24mm wide angle lens with 5x Optical Zoom range.

The entry-level model in the new IXUS compact camera range is the IXUS 115 HS, equipped with 28mm wide angle lens and 4x Optical Zoom, plus a large 3.0-inch LCD screen.
