Another wet and windy spell between the highs

After some fine weather across most of New Zealand in the last couple of days, the rollercoaster ride of weather systems continues with another active weather front bringing a spell of unsettled weather nearer the end of the week. This active cold front should move onto southern New Zealand during Thursday, then sweep over the rest of the country on Friday.

Media and Communications Meteorologist Daniel Corbett said" This front will bring some heavy falls of rain across Fiordland, Westland and perhaps parts of Southland and Otago."

MetService have issued a Severe Weather Warning for heavy rain across Fiordland and Westland on Thursday. In addition, a Severe Weather Watch for gales associated with a strong northwesterly flow ahead of the weather system has been issued for Wellington, Wairarapa, Marlborough and inland Canterbury from Thursday night into Friday.

Corbett went on to say" The colder air behind the front could bring some snow to the hills and ranges across Southland and Otago." This is unseasonable for the time of year.

A new high will build across New Zealand skies on Saturday bringing back the sunshine for many places over the weekend.
