A active front then a cool southwesterly

An active cold front is expected to move across the country during Saturday.

MetService Media and Communication Meteorologist Daniel Corbett commented "Like many active cold fronts, this front is an event of two parts. Ahead of it, there's rain in western places and strong northwesterlies in eastern places, as described by the Severe Weather Warning and the Severe Weather Watch. Following the front, there's rain in eastern places and a cold southerly change."

"The southerly makes its way across much of the country on Saturday,reaching the north of the North Island on Sunday," Corbett went on to say. "It's a pretty cold change for the time of year, with snow possibly falling down to around 300 metres in Southland, Otago and Canterbury. After recent mild weather, it may come as a bit of a shock."

At the moment the outlook for Guy Fawkes Night still features a cool southerly over the country, with showers possible in eastern places.
