Research Advisory Panel: Major boost for research at Te Papa

Attention Science reporters
Major boost for research at Te Papa

Te Papa’s newly established Research Advisory Panel has met for the first time. The panel, chaired by Dr Raewyn Dalziel from the University of Auckland, will have oversight of the strategic direction of the Museum’s research.

Te Papa Chief Executive Michael Houlihan says research is a vital part of the work at the Museum as it develops new understanding and knowledge about the collections.

“We have long engaged in a range of research projects and the establishment of the panel will ensure that the integrity and quality of our work is maintained as we increase our commitment in this area.

“The panel members are all leaders in their fields and they will provide independent advice on priorities, themes and projects as well as the feasibility of research and its relevance to our collections,” said Michael Houlihan.

The members were invited to join the panel based on their experience in academic and scholarly research in specific areas or across a broad spectrum of research.

Te Papa’s Practice Leader Research, Dr Claudia Orange says the support and advice of such a distinguished group will be critical as Te Papa strengthens the breadth of its research.
