Candace Kinser announced as Bright Sparks 2014 judge

ANDACE KINSER JOINS BRIGHT SPARKS 2014

Bright Sparks is pleased to announce the addition of Candace Kinser to the judging panel for Bright Sparks 2014.

Bright Sparks, run by The Skills Organisation, is New Zealand’s premier showcase for brilliant young minds.

Since 2000, it has fostered upcoming school-age talent in technology, electronics and software.

Kinser is the Chief Executive Officer of the New Zealand Technology Industry Association.

The association represents organisations involved in the technology sector, including multinational corporations, universities, government agencies, high-growth domestic companies and emerging entrepreneurs.

“I’m proud and delighted to be part of New Zealand’s premier showcase for brilliant young minds,” Kinser said.

“For many, Bright Sparks begins a life-long journey into a technology career and I look forward to seeing what the emerging crop of brilliant Kiwi talent produces for Bright Sparks 2014”

Bright Sparks manager Ross Petersen said Kinser would be asset to the judging panel.

“Candace is a driven and passionate champion for technology in New Zealand,” Petersen said.

“She is also a great role model for young women involved in - or interested in - technology.

"With technology set to become among the highest earners for New Zealand by 2020, it is important as many Kiwis as possible have the knowledge and opportunity to participate in the field.”

Judging for Bright Sparks 2014 takes place Monday, October 6 with finalists announced Tuesday, October 7.

Kinser joins the following long-time Bright Sparks judges:

Garry Reynolds (chief judge)

Founder of TRG Ltd - a proposal development, grants application and business growth service for technology companies.

Reynolds has a long and varied industry career including directorships and GM and CEO of several NZ and international companies.

Paul Corder

CTO Trimble Loadrite Ltd, an international company specialising in dynamic real-time weighing solutions for heavy industry, including the mining sector.

Peter Jenkins

Managing Director of Flexware Ltd, a company specialising in developing software and hardware for sophisticated embedded control systems with a real world mechanical interface.

Dr Chris Chitty

Massey University School of Engineering & Advanced Technology robotics/ mechatronics specialist.

Chitty’s career has featured him designing the robotics for Hollywood movies special effects and managing projects for Weta Workshops.
