A ridge of high pressure covers New Zealand for much of the week ahead however, a weakening front will make its way northwards over the country towards Friday, followed by another ridge of high pressure.
"While the broad high sitting over New Zealand will be the talk of the town,there is still a potential for significant showers over inland areas in the north, especially in the early part of this week," commented MetService meteorologist Rob Kerr. "The Cricket World Cup games in Nelson and Dunedin should be mainly fine and sunny, with cloudy periods forecast for Friday'sgame in the Capital." The front moving over the South Island from midweek is expected to bring a spell of showers accompanied by a southerly change, mainly to western areas though. The front weakens as it moves further north, which is good news for next weekend's Splore festival, starting in Auckland on Friday.
