A sunny weekend is forecast for the majority of New Zealand due to high pressure remaining over the country. However, a front moves over southern and eastern parts of New Zealand on Saturday and early Sunday bringing showers that diminish as the front weakens. Daytime heating will also bring isolated showers to some inland areas.

It looks to be a mainly fine weekend for the North Island. "The Art Deco weekend in Napier will see plenty of sunshine with temperatures in the 20s, " said MetService meteorologist Emma Blades. Elsewhere, isolated showers may spring up from the afternoon heat from the Central Plateau to Northland, and a few showers are possible in the south and east on Sunday from a weakening front. "Hopefully those showers won't cause any problems for the competitors taking part in the Round the Bays in Wellington on Sunday," Emma went on to say.

The South Island will receive a period of rain in the south on Saturday with the arrival of the next front. However, this front weakens bringing isolated showers further north with just the chance of a shower for the Cricket World Cup game in Christchurch that day. Sunday may see a few showers over the upper South Island, but is looking to be dry further south, so no weather interruptions for the cricket match in Dunedin that day.
