SummerGlow Apiaries applaud new scientific research

SummerGlow Apiaries applaud new scientific research.

Along with other high quality Manuka Honey producers, Waikato-based SummerGlow Apiaries, enlists an Australian scientist to help protect their export business from counterfeiters.

SummerGlow Apiaries say the research is vital to safeguard their industry from fraudsters. Too many companies attempt to "pass off" inferior product using made up or misleading rating scales and marketing strategies.

Dr Brooks and New Zealand scientist Terry Braggins were commissioned by New Zealand's Unique Manuka Factor Honey Association (UMF) to develop a "chemical fingerprint" for Manuka Honey.

The research is looking for unique compounds in the honey which come out of the nectar so they can trace it back to the floral source.
The aim is to develop a simple test so that importers and sellers can determine if honey is true to label.

The UMF Honey Association consists of more than 40 companies currently licenced to use the UMF® quality trademark. This quality mark has been in existence for over 18 years and provides protection and assurance to the consumer.

UMF license holders are required to provide proof that their product meets or exceeds any label claims during the product's shelf life, from packing until the best before date. SummerGlow, which holds the first ever issued UMF License, prides itself on a quality UMF Manuka Honey that is tested at least three times during the packing process.
SummerGlow Apiaries have been beekeeping and producing Manuka Honey for more than 40 years, and specialising in high activity UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) Manuka Honey for the past 20 years. In particular SummerGlow Apiaries specializes in the highest quality UMF 10+ and superior UMF16+.
