Cutting through the 'greenwash'
Cutting through the 'greenwash'
Ever wanted to know how sustainable a product is before making a purchase but didn't have the time to trawl through numerous websites to fnd a reliable answer?
Tired of commercial 'greenwash' and subjective environmental 'information' cluttering the internet?
There is now a website which does all the work for you and makes it simple to fnd and to understand unbiased information on the environmental footprint of numerous everyday products and services: www.envormation.org.
envormation sources scientifc papers and technical reports from around the world and summarises them in plain language. Similar to Trade Me or Consumer NZ, users type in the product or service they are looking for and envormation then brings up the sustainability info that is available in its database. The information usually consists of an envormation summary of the scientifc article on which the information is based and a brief envormation commentary advising how readers can reduce your environmental impact for that particular product or service.
envormation avoids 'greenwash' and other unsubstantiated, opinion based information which clutters the internet and instead uses only robust, science based information. The website was launched in February and is hoping to make it easier for anyone who is looking to make a small diference and reduce their environmental footprint.
envormation is a not-for-proft social enterprise based in Christchurch. In the future, the team behind envormation hopes to reach consumers in other countries also, as there does not appear to be such a service anywhere in the world.
