‘Story of Stuff’ speaker provides international flavour

‘Story of Stuff’ speaker provides international flavour for environmental education conference

US-based digital director at the Solutions Project and until recently director of community engagement at the Story of Stuff, Allison Cook will bring an international flavour and expertise in online education to the 2016 New Zealand Association for Environmental Education conference.

The conference, which is being held in Auckland 9-12 February 2016, will provide a wide variety of presentations covering practical experience, theory and research under the themes “activate, agitate, advocate”.

Joining Allison Cook as keynotes are Kirsty Albion, who is co-director with the Australian Youth Climate Coalition; Dame Anne Salmond, Distinguished Professor in Maori studies and anthropology at the University of Auckland, and heritage expert Malcolm Paterson, who is the commercial property manager for Ngāti Whātua o Kaipara’s investment arm.

Presenters will represent all environmental education and sustainability sectors, local and central government and community organisations.

In addition to hearing current thinking about environmental education and engagement, participants can attend a research symposium, take part in practical workshops and choose from a wide variety of field trips.

The conference is being hosted by the Auckland branch of the NZAEE in association with Auckland University. Sponsors for the conference are Auckland Council, the Department of Conservation, Toimata Foundation and University of Auckland Faculty of Science and Faculty of Education and Social Work.

The conference is held for government and non-government agencies, community groups, teachers, and youth, who want to be inspired and challenged to help create a more sustainable future.
