Lightfoot Looks to Build On Speed At Pukekohe

Mike ‘Buzz’ Lightfoot is looking to build on some strong pace from the opening two rounds of the UDC V8 Ute Series at round three, which runs at Pukekohe Park Raceway this weekend.

Across the opening two rounds of the series and the non-championship support races at the ITM400, Lighfoot has been amongst the pace setters but a series of unfortunate incidents have left him struggling to record results matching that speed. Despite that, Lightfoot still sits third in the points standings and the first of the Ford drivers.

Although this is the first time that Lightfoot and the whole V8 Ute series will have contested a championship round on the new layout at Pukekohe, the non-championship round there saw Lightfoot robbed of a podium finish after being turned around in the opening race with enough damage to force him to retire.

This round, Lightfoot will be looking to build on his current speed and aim to keep his nose clean to secure a strong haul of points to move further up the ladder, but will faced increased competition from competitors in the highly competitive Australian series who are making their debut in the New Zealand V8 Utes this round.

“I’m really looking forward to a strong run at Pukekohe this weekend,” says Lightfoot. “At the non-championship round, we got turned around in the opening race and that cost us a podium, but the speed was there and I’d love to get a big haul of points to help us in the championship.”

The UDC V8 Utes kick off with a practise session on Saturday at 11.35am before the hectic qualifying and race one, separated by only five minutes, starts at 2.20pm. Sunday sees a further three races for the exciting Utes starting from 9.10am.
