Robson Aims for Sensible Approach at Hawkes Bay

30th May 2013 - Hawkes Bay Rally Preview

Robson Aims for Sensible Approach at Hawkes Bay

Lee Robson is taking a sensible wait and see approach for the second round of the Rally Xtreme series, Rally Hawkes Bay this weekend.

The opening round of the series, Rally Maramarua, saw Robson make the perfect start to his campaign with a victory in the XT1 class for pre-2000 four-wheel drive cars and fifth overall, but the Hawkes Bay event is one that is new to the Aucklander.

While not thinking entirely of the series win after just one round, Robson says he is well aware that a good result calls for consistency across all rounds. With the sum total of his experience on Hawkes Bay roads limited to some in-car videos on the internet, choosing caution and a finish is the main priority.

Despite that, Robson and co-driver Glenn Goldring will be chasing a podium finish in the XT1 class and would love to take a top five overall finish in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 4.

"This weekend is really a case of wait and see for us," says Robson. "We are confident that we should have some good pace but by the same token we have already made a good start to the series and don't want to throw that away. It is too early in the season to try to defend the lead, so it will really be a balancing act."

Rally Hawkes Bay runs on Sunday, covering nine special stages including one on tarmac and a limestone super special stage, to cover 130km of competitive distance.
