Flaxmere duathlon for all the family

October 20, 2011

Flaxmere duathlon for all the family

It’s time to put on your running shoes and get some fresh air in the second annual Flaxmere duathlon.

The event is open to everyone, of all fitness levels and aims to promote the health and well being of the family.

Flaxmere Councillor Henare O’Keefe says” It’s important that the community comes out to support the event. We want to see whole families taking up the challenge and working as a team to complete the duathlon. There will be a really lively atmosphere at Flaxmere Park and the whole event is designed to create a positive community feel.”

The duathlon consists of a 4km run/walk, a 10k bike and a 2km run/walk. Participants can take part as an individual or it can be done as a team event.

“The duathlon is just another example of the Flaxmere communities can do attitude The distances have been set to encourage everyone to have a go and a large number should be able to take part without undertaking a major training regime,” Mr O’Keefe says.

‘It’s so important for the health of the community that everyone comes out to play.”

Entries will be taken on the day between 8.30am and 9.45am with all competitors eligible for spot prizes.

The Flaxmere Trust Community Duathlon starts at 10am at Flaxmere Park on Saturday October 29th.

The duathlon is proudly supported by the Flaxmere Licensing Trust, Heinz Watties, McCains, Hastings District Council, Sport Hawke’s Bay and Flaxmere Pharmacy.
