START MEMO NOMINATING-JUSTIFICATION:
Mr. Remadious is a human rights attorney who appears
mostly for the victims of the long-drawn conflict in
Sri Lanka. He is an advocate for a peaceful resolution
to the conflict. In many fora, 'Federalism' is
suggested as a lasting solution to the conflict and,
therefore, it will be beneficial to provide Mr.
Ramadious with an exposure to the American system of
government and the role it plays in protecting human
rights.

START MEMO NOMINATING-JUSTIFICATION:
Dr. Ambalavanar is a civil activist who sincerely wants
peace and strikes as a reasonable person able to
entertain different points of view. Frankly his
sympathies lie with the Tigers but not because of their
tactics but because of their goal of defending Tamil
rights. Dr. Ambalavanar has been "discovered" by
various peace groups and recently traveled to
Switzerland to participate in a conference on Sri
Lanka's future. He thus has had exposure
internationally, but has never been to the United
States. Post certainly thinks he will be a very
prominent person in Jaffna post-peace. For the latter
reason, we believe it would be wise for us to invest in
him by sending him to the United States and exposing
him to our open society.
