START MEMO NOMINATING-JUSTIFICATION:
Although Dr. Silva is the Head of the Department of
English at the University of Colombo, her interests
run beyond the field of English. She is the
consultant and editor of the Social Scientists'
Association and also works closely with the Regional
Centre for Strategic Studies, and the International
Centre for Ethnic Studies. Through these reputed
organizations Dr. Silva is actively involved with
peace and conflict resolution, and women's rights.
Dr. Silva is young and has a long academic career
ahead of her. She also has all indications of
becoming a future leader in activities on peace,
conflict resolution and women's rights.
An exposure through the IV program on "Women as
Leaders in the Public and Private Sectors," would be
greatly beneficial to her and in return to the Sri
Lankan society.
