SUBJECT: AU JAN 08 SUMMIT: GOVERNMENT OF TANZANIA ATTENDANCE

1. (U) Post has been informed by Government of Tanzania
(GOT) that the Head of Delegation for the January African
Union (AU) Summit in Addis Ababa will be President Jakaya
Kikwete. He will be accompanied by Bernard Membe, Foreign
Minister; Basil Mramba, Minister of Trade and Industry;
Ambassador Malumbugi, Director of Africa Division at the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and other support staff.

2. (SBU) The State House has indicated informally that
President Kikwete would welcome a meeting with Assistant
Secretary Frazer during the AU Summit. President Kikwete

will be in Addis Ababa from January 31 to February 3.
Foreign Minister Membe will be in Addis from January 26 to
February 3.

3. (U) Post will send information on the hotel where the GOT
delegation will be staying and POC information for the
delegation as soon as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
forwards this information to the Embassy.
