(SBU) PolOff delivered reftel demarche February 28 to
Department of Foreign Affairs Acting Director, United Nations
(Political) Directorate Simon Cardy. Cardy said South Africa
shared U.S. concerns about the problem of piracy and armed
robbery off the coast of Somalia. Cardy said that he would
discuss the proposed resolution with the South African UN
Mission, the Africa Branch, and the South African Department
of Defence and would provide a substantive reply when
available.
