SUBJECT: STATUS OF COLOMBIAN VOLUNTARY PLEDGE FOR WIREC 2008

REF: STATE 26870

Econoff contacted Colombia's Ministry of Foreign Relations
and Ministry of Environment in follow-up to reftel request.
Officials at both ministries confirmed that the GOC continues
to consider making a voluntary pledge to further promote
renewable energy in keeping with the goals of the 2008
Washington International Renewable Energy Conference (WIREC).
However, they expressed uncertainty whether a draft pledge
could receive inter-ministerial approval prior to the April 4
deadline. Post will report any additional developments as
known.
