SUBJECT: BAHRAIN: IMPLEMENTATION OF FINANCIAL PROVISIONS OF UNSCR 1803, EMPHASIS ON BANKS MELLI, MELLAT, AND SADERAT

REF: A. STATE 29096 B. STATE 29098 Classified By: Ambassador Adam Ereli for reasons 1.4(b) and (d).

1.(C) Econoff conveyed ref A non-paper regarding UNSCR 1803's call for member states to exercise vigilance in dealing with Iranian banks to MFA Director of Bilateral Affairs Dr. Dhafer Al-Umran March 24 and met to follow up with him and pass ref B non-paper on specific activities of Banks Melli, Mellat, and Saderat March 27.

2.(C) Al-Umran told Econoff that the GOB supported resolution 1803 and the related UNSCRs preceding it, i.e., 1737 and 1747. 3.(C) On the ref B Melli, Mellat, Saderat non-paper, Al-Umran noted the value of the specific information on Iranian banking abuses. He said he would follow up personally with Central Bank of Bahrain colleagues to encourage appropriate vigilance. ********************************************* ******** Visit Embassy Manama's Classified Website: XXXXXXXXXXXX********************************************* ******** ERELI
