WOMEN MAKE THE NEWS
SUVA: The women of Fiji's Daily Post newspaper prepared last night to run the paper today. it is part of an effort by this newspaper to join UNESCO in promoting International Women's Day today.
Today, Daily Post chief subeditor Christine Ravoi-Rakai, the only woman chief subeditor in the Pacific Islands, will act as editor.
Crime and Parliament reporter Josephine Prasad will be news editor. The Daily Post already has a woman, Karalaini Waqadrola, as sports editor, and Rosi Tamani is business editor.
PACIFIC MEDIA WATCH is an independent, non-profit, non-government organisation comprising journalists, lawyers, editors and other media workers, dedicated to examining issues of ethics, accountability, censorship, media freedom and media ownership in the Pacific region. Launched in October 1996, it has links with the Journalism Program at the University of the South Pacific, Bushfire Media, the Australian Centre for Independent Journalism, and Pactok Communications, in Sydney and Port Moresby.
