2) Militiaman's death a warning to infiltrators, says UN chief 03/08/00 (Lusa) DILI - The killing of a militiaman by UN peacekeepers along the border with Indonesia Wednesday would serve as a warning to armed infiltrators, East Timor's UN administrator said in Dili.

3) Gusmao questions politicians' readiness for democracy, independence 03/08/00 (Lusa) DILI - In a blistering attack against partisan power ambitions, East Timorese independence leader Xanana Gusmao Wednesday challenged the Territory's emerging political groups to match cheap criticism by "showing what you're worth.

4) "Indonesian government should get tough on Timor militia, says NZ 03/08/00 (AFP) WELLINGTON, Aug 2 - The Indonesian government should be taking legal steps against militia forces in West Timor, New Zealand Foreign Affairs Minister Phil Goff said Wednesday.

5) Timor Gap treaty illegal 03/08/00 (EnergyAsia) The Timor Gap Treaty signed between Australia and Indonesia during the rule of former president Suharto is illegal, and is not recognised by either the United Nations or the East Timorese people.
