Sentencing in the Trial of the Five Soldiers Refusing
to Serve in the IDF
On (Jan 4th 2004), the district military court sentenced five IDF soldiers convicted on Dec. 16, 2003, of refusing to serve in the IDF to12 months imprisonment. The five were convicted on the charge of refusal to carry out an order.
The court found that the main motive behind their refusing to serve is political/ideological and not on grounds of conscience.
The court unanimously ruled that the soldiers' actions
undermined the legitimacy of Israel's actions, and as such
were unacceptable.
