Remains Of UN Workers Who Died In Monday's Air Crash Are Being Identified

The remains of the United Nations workers who died in Monday's helicopter crash in Sierra Leone have been taken to a hospital in the capital for forensic identification tests, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said today.

The 24 presumed dead in the Russian MI-8 plane included 14 members of Pakistan's contingent in the peacekeeping UN Assistance Mission in Sierra Leone UNAMSIL, one member of the Bangladeshi contingent, six civilians and three crew members.

Teams of investigators from the United Nations and the Russian Federation were investigating why the aircraft crashed in the jungle not far from the town of Yengema.
