"9/11 Citizens' Commission" follows RNC in Manhattan;

Zogby Poll Now Shows Nearly 50% of New Yorkers Suspect Government
Foreknowledge of 9/11 Attacks
In NY, Liberals and Conservatives Find Measure of Common Ground on 9/11
Suspicions

New York, NY (September 7, 2004) -- Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney and former Bush Sr. official Catherine Austin Fitts will hear controversial largely unheard testimony presented by whistleblowers and investigative journalists at the first "9/11 Citizens' Commission" hearings this Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Symphony Space, 2537 Broadway at 95th St.

A press conference will be held at 11:30 am, and the hearings run from 1:00-7:00 pm and will be followed by evening documentary screenings.

Ashcroft gagged former FBI translator, now whistleblower Sibel Edmonds, featured recently on 60 Minutes will be amongst witnesses and Bob McIlvaine, who lost his son on September 11th will serve as one of five Commissioners.

The event comes on the heels of the RNC and a stunning new poll released by Zogby International which shows that nearly half (49.3%) of New York City residents believe members of the Bush Administration had specific foreknowledge of the 9/11 attacks and "consciously failed" to stop them ( http://www.zogby.com/news).

Nearly two-thirds (65.6%) call for re-opening the investigation by Congress or the New York State Attorney General.

"Given these poll findings we believe it's imperative that common citizens follow up on investigating 9/11 where the official 9/11 Commission fell well short of a full accounting," said Kyle Hence, communications director of 9/11 CitizensWatch, a group which monitored the 9/11 Commission. "The 9/11 Commission Report failed to answer the majority of questions posed by victims' family members, including those about multiple specific warnings from overseas, the spiking of FBI investigations, terrorist financing, the lack of defensive air response and the inadequately explained breakdown of the national chain of command that morning."

The Zogby poll revealed deep skepticism among all the adults surveyed, both self-identified "very conservative" and "very liberal" respondents doubting the 9/11 Commission report findings and calling for new effort toward a full accounting.

In response to government's 9/11 Commission report, the group 911truth.org has prepared a "9/11 Omission Dossier" (preview at www.911truth.org) while 9/11 CitizensWatch plans release of "The 9/11 Omission Report" later this month. These reports and Thursday hearings raise serious doubts about the credibility of the 9/11 Commission and point to evidence indicating foreknowledge or planning by as-yet-unidentified U.S. and foreign actors involved in the attacks, as well as official, possibly criminal misconduct before, during, and after the attacks beyond the singly implicated 'Al-Qaeda.'

Another event "Confronting the Evidence" calling into question the ‘official story’ on 9/11, including the explanations offered by the collapse of World Trade Center building #7, is scheduled for Saturday, September 11th from 8-10:30PM at the Manhattan Center [see www.summeroftruth.org for more information].
