Final meeting for Africa Commission

Final meeting for Africa Commission

The last full gathering of the Commission for Africa has taken place in London.

Chaired by the Prime Minister, it was an opportunity for the Commissioners to reflect on the outcomes of their extensive consultation programme, which has included more than 2000 people.

They were discussing a strategy for building international support ahead of the G8 summit in July.

Campaigner Bob Geldof was there, along with prominent African politicians.

The Commission for Africa was established last year by Tony Blair.

Its aim has been to generate ideas and action that will 'accelerate and sustain Africa's growth and development, leading to a strong and prosperous continent.'

The final report will be published in mid-March.
