KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (Reuters) - At least five people were killed and more than 30 wounded Thursday in blast blamed on Taliban fighters in Kandahar, according to a senior security officer in the southern Afghan city.

The explosion in the former Taliban stronghold occurred as Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice began talks with Afghan leaders in the capital, Kabul. Kabul, some 290 miles northeast of Kandahar, has not seen any major militant incident since last October.
