Steve Irwin

Press Release
Fran Bailey
Minister for Small Business and Tourism
04 Sep 06

Steve Irwin

I was saddened and shocked to learn today of the death of Steve Irwin.

Steve was a great Australian and a great Australian tourism icon who contributed enormously to our nation.

He was a larger than life character who was loved by millions of people world wide. Americans adored him. Thousands visited Australia Zoo.

At G'Day LA, Steve was the best ambassador for tourism we could ever have. His boundless enthusiasm won everyone over.

In February 2006, I was honoured to present Steve with his well deserved award for services to the tourism industry at the Australian Tourism Awards.

On behalf of the Australian tourism industry, I extend my condolences to his wife Terri and to his children, Bindi and Bob.
