Fiji landowners oppose resort for homosexuals

Fiji landowners oppose resort for homosexuals

Indigenous landowners in Fiji’s Yasawa Islands have expressed outrage that a resort to be built on their land is already marketing itself as a haven for gays and lesbians.

The Fiji Times reports that this follows revelations that the resort is being advertised on an Internet site devoted to homosexuals.

The paper says it has obtained correspondence in which one of the developers says two officials of the Native Lands Trust Board have been bribed to interpret the law any way he wished.

The correspondence shows the developer claiming that the NLTB do not care about the landowners but the investors, so they will always be protected.

The NLTB has launched an investigation into the claims while the ministry of tourism is investigating the proposed resort.

A spokesman for the landowners says they feel outraged and insulted by what has happened and want their land back.
