The title says it all: Variations on a Dream - An Acoustic Evening Of Varied Music – when the musician and composer Paul Weller will be presenting a whole evening of the best in British pop-rock. As the founder and vocalist with The Jam Weller is regarded with veneration by other pop-rock bands in the United Kingdom. Together with David Bowie he wrote the soundtrack for the film Absolute Beginners (1996). For his performance at Berlin’s Schiller Theater Weller will be backed by the Ocean Colour Scene guitarist Steve Cradock. Since 1993 these two musicians have collaborated with great success on a number of projects, and most recently Weller contributed to the Ocean Colour Scene album On the Leyline, which is due for release in June.

This special appearance by the successful British musician has been organised by the Karrera Klub in Berlin. Since 1996 Stefan “Spencer“ Theile and his party-makers have regularly been staging events featuring all kinds of pop music, and as a result the club has become firmly established as a venue for Indie and Britpop sounds in the German capital and further afield. Over the years the Karrera Klub has presented more than 100 bands and DJs, providing them with an outstanding platform for their music. The Popkomm Festival also offers the perfect setting: when hundreds of promising newcomer bands set the Berlin club scene alight, what better opportunity could there be for the man who has influenced them all, Paul Weller, to make an appearance too!

Popkomm – plug in to success

Thes Popkomm Festival is Europe’s best showcase, with the highest international participation too. In 2006 over 2,000 musicians from 26 countries appeared on stage during Popkomm. Last year the 400 performances provided over 600 hours of live music in 30 clubs around Berlin, and entertained a total audience of 70,000. Popkomm is the only industry meeting place in the world that combines a trade show with a convention and a festival. Consequently Popkomm is a major attraction not only for its core business of music but also brings the representatives of other sectors such as concert promoters, movie producers, mobile entertainment, fashion and advertising to Berlin. The 19th Popkomm will be taking place from 19 to 21 September.
