Qarase a hindrance to moving forward

The Interim Government is doing its utmost in moving Fiji forward. However, the irresponsible and inciteful behaviour of Mr. Laisenia Qarase and some of the SDL Executives is neither in the interest of Fiji nor of any help to the untiring efforts of the Interim Government to bring about a sustained phase of normalcy.

These are the comments of Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama as the Office of the Prime Minister released an official statement on the disruptions which Mr. Qarase is causing to peace, harmony and progress to normalcy which the ordinary members of the public were beginning to enjoy.

Commodore Bainimarama said that Mr. Qarase was acting irresponsibly by making statements and participating in activities which have political orientation. He is also "stage-managing" media to seek public sympathy and also in the process causing ill-feeling and incitement not only to the work of the Interim Government but the public at large.

He should realize that he is here to attend to his Court Case and also participate in daily errands as an ordinary member of the public. If he continues to act and behave in the manner he has been doing, I am afraid that he will run into trouble with the law, particularly the respective provisions of Public Order Act.

Commodore Bainimarama said that Mr. Qarase should be mindful and sensitive to interests and welfare of the public and the country as a whole rather than selfishly push his own political agenda. He said this is not the time for political posturing. It is rather a time to act responsibly in the public interest to ensure maintenance of sustained peace, harmony and progress to normalcy.
