Gordon Brown Supports UK 2018 FIFA World Cup Bid
Gordon Brown supports 2018 World Cup Bid
The British Prime Minister has offered his support for a potential bid by England to host the 2018 World Cup.
Speaking to journalists in Downing Street today, Mr Brown said the Government would do "everything in [its] power" to back any bid by the English FA to bring the tournament to the UK for the first time since 1966. The PM's comments came after a private meeting with FIFA President Sepp Blatter in 10 Downing Street.
FIFA, football's governing world body, has yet to decide if it will adopt a stricter system of rotating the World Cup by continent that would rule England out of the 2018 process.
