(22 – 25 May 2008)

Children’s Sculpture Exhibition

Sculpture Carnival Theme

Mother Earth is in trouble! It is time to save her! Let Sculpture Square take you on a journey to unleash the magical powers of the mystical Guardians that can rescue Mother Earth from her ailments. And who are these Guardians that can help Mother Earth’s nasty headache that leaves her all topsy turvy? What can the Guardians do to bring her back to balance again? Where will they come from? How would they look like?

“Mission: Mother Earth” invites kids to find out and learn about the problems of pollution and its harmful effects on Earth’s natural environment. Discovering the different elements that are essential to Earth’s wellbeing, the children are free to create Guardians from their imagination, who will cooperate with Man to restore the equilibrium and end Mother Earth’s woes

About Sculpture Carnival

Sculpture Carnival and the accompanying Children’s Sculpture Exhibition are Sculpture Square’s annual community outreach initiatives.  Together, the two events make up Singapore’s largest and most successful annual children’s visual arts project, touching the lives of over 40,000 children since its inception in 1999.  Targeted at children from 4 to 12, they are designed to develop a new audience by fostering awareness and appreciation of art in Singapore as well as raising up a new generation of art enthusiasts.

For four days 22 - 25 May, Sculpture Square is transformed into a magical fairground for the imagination; the atmosphere buzzing with excitement as local artists initiate children into the three-dimensional world of art through a multitude of hands-on sculpture workshops.  Now, in its tenth year of running, this programme continues to be a springboard for self-expression.  Experimenting with unusual materials and creative techniques, children are encouraged to break free from pre-conceptions, release their creative minds and be bold explorers of their world.
